STUPID! Cannot be “Because we are Maldivians”

(Let’s go watch the documentary “The Age of Stupid” in my Cinema)

Our Markets: The promotion of recycled bag.

Anyone who has been to our Local fish market will simply realize how much effort we put on to make our country a better greener or eco-friendly country.

Out of all these 100’s of shops in Male 1000’s of people visit every day. How many recycled paper bags you get out of those 100’s of shops. (Don’t worry you can use your fingers to count that)

Thousands of these plastic bags we carry home from the next door shops everyday – how many of us re-use them? (“Yes I use it, for garbage disposal Everyday”) WE ARE STILL NOT STUPID.

BUT THINK AGAIN: Most of the counties, road side shops and super markets even use recycled papers bags as carrying bag.

SOLUTION: Go to one those counties for shopping.

1000’s of people use bottled water in Maldives for usual drinking – But how many of those manufacturers provide recycling options? (Yes we do it; you can see our “please recycle” logo in the bottles) WE ARE STILL NOT STUPID

BUT THINK AGAIN: There are lots of countries when you take the empty bottle the bottling companies will pay you.

SOLUTION: Again go to those counties to drink water and Coke.

Out of over 800 households or more in male, how many of us use solar power even just to power one single bulb at home? (“Yes we do it, we use solar for our shower heaters. Cos it comes with solar unit”) that’s why I say “WE ARE NOT STUPID”

BUT THINK AGAIN: People in most of the countries with our income level use widely use solar panel at least to power one of their bulbs too.

SOLUTION: Hello!! Who cares about saving a penny in Maldives”??

How many of our households use a second hand (TV, Furniture, Clothes, Books, or any household items)? (“why should we, Asia’s one of the richest country. We got money and Reef Side got Sony Bravia.”) Da**! “WE ARE STILL NOT STUPID”

BUT THINK AGAIN: Most of the Counties even have pawn shops who resell these household Items. A very successful business! So how many we have in our country ( lol… don’t worry. We will not count it)

Instead of having a subsidy to deliver cheap electricity to Maldivians – Have we ever thought of providing or promoting a solar panel to just one household in Maldives.

“But we are NOT STUPID! Yea because we aren’t going to live until so called THE AGE OF STUPID 2050”

Maldives, One of the very first countries who will go as a carbon neutral in the world is our aim and the aim is few months old now. What have we done so far? (“We have sent our president to United states to raise our concerns about it”) Still NOT STUPID huh..

My friend told me 2 things we have done so far!

- My friend said: Our government has increased the tax on vehicles

(And how many of us have stopped buying it because of the tax increment?- I asked him)

- Also my Friend said: We have already announced introducing a green tax.

(But how long have we been taking about VAT,GST in Maldives?-I asked him)

His answer is still the same “WE ARE NOT STUPID”

Let’s go back to the history, about the things we have done to make Maldives a green country and save our islands from sinking.

Our very first attempt to save Maldives: in 1987, our former president Mr.Gayoom addressed the issue to the world in the United Nations General assembly. In return most of the diplomat reacted may be like “Oh oh... a wrong guy in a wrong place at a very wrong time

Below is exactly what’s written on one of the international news papers recently about Mr.Gayoom’s campaign:

“Gayoom (64) has emerged as a David in the battle against rising sea waves since he first drew the United Nations' attention at the 1987 General Assembly”

He is using every international forum to convey his "sinking" feeling, diplomats said.

QUESTION 01:

When you are a kid, you touch fire and burn yourself; what do you discover about fire then? Answer is simple “we come know that fire is hot and if we touch it will burn”

It’s a very simple theory of discovering each and every thing we see in this world.

Now I know, most of the readers of this article will say I am STUPID.

But that’s not the real question. The real question is:

How Does Mr.Gayoom knew that our nation is threatened by global warming in 1987?

(Hint to answer: his first address about Global warming and sea level rise was in 1987 and Giant Tidal wave almost washed him also happened in 1987)

Let me tell you a phase on one of Mr.Gayoom’s articles, which was pointing to a giant tidal wave which washed male in 1987 April.

He wrote "While I was inspecting the damage, a large wave reared up suddenly and buffeted the vehicle I was in,"

"It was a moment of fear, not for my own safety, but for the safety of the people of Maldives."

Now all of you know the answer to my question! So let me know the answer.

That’s right “We are not stupid”

Just can’t wait without saying anything when my one of the best friend is getting married. Here I will tell a little about her. She's quite old :), but the most wonderful and coolest person on earth,
She loves SR***n Hospitality, sometimes she can be very funny and she love to fight. But she is so kind that sometimes I feel like my second mommy. Believe or not next week...she's getting married.

Words can't say how proud I am to have such a friend. I wish if I could be there on that precious moment. But life isn’t always fair and it can be so complicated. That's all I had to say today.
Girl you enjoy and always remember we wish you the best all the time.
The only thing we want to say is that, FATTY, don't forget about us. We will always be with you through thick and thin. So cheer up and smile.

Dancing Fountains

These fountains Developed over six decades ago by Sir Mirza Ismail, when he was the Dewan of MysoreState under Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the unique terraced garden had suffered in its charm and look of recent. Its eye-pleasing illumination and myriad of fountains had reached pathetic state with neglected care and maintenance, often resulting in publiccomplaints.

Responding to the public criticism, the Government of Karnataka entrusted the face-lift project to the CNN, eight months ago. The face-lifted garden was expected to be thrown open by the Dasara but, financial and other constrains delayed the work and the garden and fountains sporting a new look are now drawing bigger crowds.

The Chamundi Hills

The Chamundi Hills are located in India, close to the palace city of Mysore. Its average elevation is 1,000 meters.
Legend has it that the demon Mahishasura, the king of the area that is currently Mysore, was killed by the Goddess Chamundeswari (also Chamundi) after a fierce battle. The hills hence got their name and a temple of the Goddess was built on the top. The Goddess is also known as MahishasuraMardini meaning She who slayed Mahishasura. The temple has a very beautiful Idol of the Goddess wearing a garland of skulls.

The temple has always been patronised by the rulers of Mysore. In earlier days, the Maharajas of Mysore would ride the ceremonial Dasara elephant during the annual Dasara festival, but after India gained independence, the Idol of Goddess Chamundi is taken on an elephant. , For other uses, see Mysore (disambiguation). ... Temple of Hephaestus, an Doric Greek temple in Athens with the original entrance facing east, 449 BC (western face depicted) For other uses, see Temple (disambiguation). ... A panoramic view of the city is seen from the top of the hills. Among other landmarks, you can see the Race Course, the Lalitha Mahal palace, the Mysore Palace, the Karanji and Kukkarahalli lakes. At dusk, the view of the city is especially beautiful, and on Sunday evenings and during the Dasara festival, the illuminated Mysore Palace glitters like gold.

There are steps leading to the top of the hill. There are around 1,000 steps in all, and climbing the first 400 or so steps takes some effort. Enroute to the top, the steps pass the large monolithic statue of Nandi the Bull. Nandi is the vahana (Vehicle) of Lord Shiva. Climbing gets easier soon afterwards

The St. Philomena's Church

A church at the same location was built in 1843 by the then Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar. An inscription which was there at the time of laying the foundation of the present church n 1933 states. This church is built 1843 years after the incarnation of Jesus Christ.In 1926, Thamboo Chetty who was a secretary to the Maharaja of Mysore, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar obtained a relic of the saint from Peter Pisani, Apostolic Delegate of the East Indies.[1] This relic was handed over to Father Cochet who approached the king to assist him in constructing a church in honour of St. Philomena.[3]. The Maharaja of Mysore laid the foundation stone of the church on October 28, 1933.

The Chamundeeswari temple

The Chamundeeswari temple is located on a hill in the vicinity of Mysore and is accessed through a motorable road. Chamundeeswari the tutelary deity of the Mysore Maharajas has been held in reverence for centuries, and the Wodeyars of Mysore have made extensive contributions to this shrine.

Mysore Palace
The Palace of Mysore(Kannada: ಮೈಸೂರು ಅರಮನೆ) is a palace situated in the city of Mysore,

southern India. It was the official residence of the former royal family of Mysore, and also housed the durbar (ceremonial meeting hall of the royal court.

The palace was commissioned in 1897, and its construction was completed in 1912

The Kingdom of Mysore was ruled by the Wodeyar dynasty from 1399 until the independence of India in 1947.The Wodeyar kings built a palace in Mysore in the 14th century, but this palace was partially damaged by a lightning strike in 1638. It was repaired and expanded, but fell into neglect by the late 18th century. It was demolished in 1793, and a new palace was built in its place in 1803. This palace was destroyed in a fire in 1897 during the wedding of Princess Jayalakshmanni.
The regent of Mysore at the time, Maharani Kempa Nanjammani Vani Vilasa Sannidhana, commissioned a British architect, Henry Irwin, to build yet another palace in its place. The architect was directed to combine different styles of architecture in the construction of the palace.

The palace complex includes twelve Hindu temples. The oldest of these was built in the 14th century, while the most recent was built in 1953.
Some of the more famous temples are:
Someshvara Temple, dedicated to God Lord Shiva
Lakshmiramana Temple, dedicated to God Lord Vishnu

The architectural style of the palace is commonly described as Indo-Saracenic, and blends together Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic styles of architecture. It is a three-storied stone structure, with marble domes and a 145 ft five-storied tower. The palace is surrounded by a large garden.
The three storied stone building of fine gray granite with deep pink marble domes was designed by Henry Irwin. The facade has seven expansive arches and two smaller ones flanking the central arch, which is supported by tall pillars.

The palace houses several rooms of importance. These include:
Audience Chamber: This was Hall of Private Audience, where the king would confer with his ministers. It was also the chamber in which he gave audience to people deserving special attention.
Public Durbar: The Diwan-e-aam was a public hall where the general population could meet the king at prescribed times with petitions.
Royal wedding hall
Armoury: The palace houses an armoury, which contains a collection of different types of arms used by the members of the royal family. These include weapons that were used in the 14th century (lances, cutlasses, etc), as well as weapons that were used in the early twentieth century (pistols, etc).

Gombe Thotti (Doll’s Pavilion)
Entry to the palace is through the Gombe Thotti or the Doll’s Pavilion, a gallery of traditional dolls from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The pavilion also houses a fine collection of Indian and European sculpture and ceremonial objects like a wooden elephant howdah (frame to carry passengers) decorated with 84 kilograms of gold.

TIPU SULTAN DEATH PLACE

Tipu Sultan ruled Mysore from the death of his father, Haidar Ali, until his own death at Seringapatam on 4th May 1799. Described by one Scotsman, Major Dirom, as 'an able, intrepid general,' Tipu was known as The Tiger of Mysore, identified himself with tigers, and decorated all his personal possessions with tiger motifs or a stylised tiger stripe (bubri). His soldiers wore the 'tyger jacket' and painted bubris decorated the walls of his throne room and mausoleum

Tipu was also a strongly religions man, following the precepts of the Suni Muslims.'God give me victory as long as the Sun and the Moon shine,' was inscribed on his family seal, while his weapons are often inscribed with a Koranic text, or a dedication to Mohammed. On his green standard, the intertwined Persian characters proclaim 'asad allah al-ghalib' ('The Lion of God is Conqueror').

Death place of Tippu where the body of Tippu was found. Lalmahal Palace (ruins of ancient palace), Thomas Inman's Dungeon and an Obelisk of war memorial are also located nearby. The Jamia Masjid is also situated on the way to these places.

Election Maldives - Guide to Vote

Its election day for Maldives just a coupple of days away, which is going to make a remarkable history in our life.
First time first time multiple candidates racing for a president.
Its going to be almost 30 years that we keep telling YES or NO for just one candidate contesting as a president. which means basically we got no choices.
But this time we got choices. not just one or two..... more than that.
So as a resposible citizen of maldives ... to decide a better future for our next generation lets go for voting.
I am not so experience on voting .. but I use to hear about the problems people face when attending for voting.
so let me tell you about some simple guides for voting and how to handle the problems on election day.

Clearly, the main thing to do on election day is vote. Unfortunately, voting can often be a confusing process. Here is a brief guide designed to answer some common election day questions.
Where do I vote?

Probably from TVM they will advertise out sample ballots weeks before the election. It probably lists where you vote. You may have also gotten a notice from your local elections office after you registered. It may also list your polling place.

Call your local elections office. It will be listed in the government pages of your phone book.
Ask a neighbor. People who live in the same apartment complex, on the same street, block, etc., usually vote at the same place.

When can I vote?

In most Islands, polls open between 6 and 8 in the morning and close between 6 and 9 in the evening. Once again, call your local elections office for the exact hours.
Typically, if you are in line to vote by the time the polls close, you will be allowed to vote.
To avoid long lines, vote between 10 am and 5 pm.
To avoid potential traffic problems at busy polling places, consider carpooling. Take a friend to vote.

What should I bring to the polls?

It is a good idea to bring a form of photo identification with you. Some times you may require photo ID. You should also bring a form of ID that shows your current address. poll workers sometimes ask for it, so it's a good idea to bring your ID, anyway. If you registered by mail, you will need to produce your ID the first time you vote.

What if I'm not on the registered voter list?

When you sign in at the polling place, your name will be checked against a list of registered voters. If your name is not on the list of registered voters at that polling place, you CAN still vote.

Ask the poll worker to check again. They should be able to check a statewide list. You may be registered to vote, but at another location.

If your name is not on the list, you can still vote on a "provisional ballot." This ballot will be counted separately. After the election, officials will determine if you are eligible to vote and add your ballot to the official count.

What if I have a disability?

Goverment law requires that polling places be accessible to persons with disabilities. But if you want to make sure you will be able to vote, it is best to call your local election office before election day. Inform them of your disability and that you will need an accessible polling place.
According to the law it will require that every polling place must provide a way for people with disabilities to vote privately and independently.

What are my rights as a voter?

Equal treatment and opportunity to register and vote, regardless of race, religion, national origin, sex or disability.
Privacy - only you should know how you voted.
Having your vote accurately counted and recorded.
If you have a disability, access to a voting device you can use, along with appropriate assistance.
Help in voting from poll workers IF you ask for it.
Courtesy and respect from poll workers, election officials and all others at the polling place.

Are you proud to be a Maldivian ??

Are we Maldivians dying or living in this country?
What use is this ‘cutting edge’ concept making in Maldives if it turns out to be an evil which is cutting the throats of our future? What is the point of such a meaningless rat race if it is going to end up becoming one vicious never ending cycle of distress and suffering? What is it that eventually matters? And who decides that?
A solution that hopefully teaches a child to follow its own heart and not that of a looming shadow. Could this scene be more tragic? Is there a way out?
One of the Obvious factor is our beloved education system. A cruel and heartless soul laundry of a factory that heaps loads of work for the young minds without leaving them any other option except to memorize the most mundane details about some meaningless piece of information. The monster-manufacturing unit that works 24/7 day and night tirelessly dishing out new assignments and new ways to torture the developmental process. With time this process has only become more meaningless and more abundant.
There are many factors that drive a people to do such an unthinkable act. Strict parents who condition their children from Kindergarten that succeeding is everything. Failure is not an option. That component of fear is what grows into a monster within them, eating away at their soul bit by bit and eventually enveloping them and gobbling them in one giant gulp.
Another problem is most of us we believe Maldives, a country where ‘everything is on sale’ and everyone is a genius. A gentle reminder of the fact that magic and logic reside in the same bosom like two faces of the same coin. This was not supposed to be our future. Not based on the predictions the super powers had made about a decade ago anyway.
I leave you with these thinking’s to ponder on!!
